AP Source: Obama to meet with Mideast negotiators

WASHINGTON (AP) ? A White House official says President Barack Obama will meet Tuesday morning with Israeli and Palestinian negotiators involved in a new round of peace talks.

The meeting was to happen at the White House as a second day of talks overseen by the State Department was getting underway.

The Washington negotiations are the result of Secretary of State John Kerry's six months of furious shuttle diplomacy. A previous Obama administration effort to restart stalled talks collapsed quickly in 2010.

The official insisted on anonymity in order to confirm the meeting before it was formally announced.

Publisher Mecom sees 2013 core earnings at top end of prior forecast

* Sees full-year core earnings at upper end of prior forecast

* Lowers net debt to 95.5 million euros

* First (Other OTC: FSTC - news) -half core earnings fall 15 percent

* Shares rise as much as 9.6 pct

By Abhirup Roy

July 31 (Reuters) - European publishing company Mecom Group (LSE: MEC.L - news) Plc said it expects 2013 core earnings at the upper end of its previous forecast as it continues to cut costs and sell assets in the face of declining advertising revenue.

The company, which owns more than 250 printed titles and 200 websites, said in April that it expected 2013 core earnings to drop significantly to between 50 million euros ($66.26 million) and 60 million euros, as advertising and subscription revenue, especially in its Dutch operations, continued to drag.

Shares in Mecom rose as much as 9.6 percent to 40 pence in early trading.

Numis Securities raised its rating on the stock to "buy", saying that even though Mecom remains a high-risk investment, the earnings forecast and its lower-than-expected debt prompted the upgrade. The brokerage also raised its target price on the stock to 65 pence from 43 pence.

Net debt fell to 95.5 million euros as on June 30 from 109.7 million euros a year earlier.

The print media industry has been struggling to hang on to readers and advertisers in the face of stiff competition from the Internet.

Mecom cut 230 full-time equivalent employees, in the first half, and reduced expenses by 11 percent, or 46 million euros. It also completed four disposals with a combined value of 52 million euros.

The company, which appointed veteran investment banker and M&A specialist Rory Macnamara as non-executive chairman in May, said it would undertake another restructuring of its Netherlands operations later this year.

"Mecom has been through a period of significant change, against the most challenging of trading backdrops. It has focused down to two country businesses and we feel more disposals are likely," Canaccord Genuity analyst Simon Davies said in a note.

EARNINGS DECLINE CONTINUES

The company said it would not pay any dividend this year and that it would review its dividend policy after further restructuring.

Mecom said its first-half core earnings fell 15 percent and reiterated that tough trading environment in the Netherlands would continue for the rest of the year at least.

Adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) fell to 31.7 million euros ($42.01 million) in the six months ended June 30 from 37.3 million euros a year earlier.

Total (NYSE: TOT - news) revenue dropped 11 percent to 415.3 million euros. Advertising revenue, which accounts for nearly 40 percent of total revenue, fell 20 percent to 154 million euros from continuing operations.

"I think investors understand that this is a difficult business ... Whilst numbers are down it is encouraging that their guidance is being moved up," Peel Hunt analyst Patrick Yau said. "The question is to what extent can they offset that decline."

Mecom shares, which have lost more than half of their value since the beginning of 2013, were up 8 percent at 39.50 pence at 0941 GMT on Wednesday on the London Stock Exchange (LSE: LSE.L - news) .

Microsoft, Intel, other tech companies rally against ITC product bans

?

Position has some political support

The BSA -- a group representing technology companies like Oracle, Intel, and Microsoft -- has taken a position against banning products based on infringements of standards-essential patents, a Wall Street Journal article notes. The move appears to have been spurred by a possible ITC ban of some older AT&T-model iPhones and iPads. Samsung scored the ruling in a complaint against Apple.

Intel is among the parties scheduled to testify in front of a US Senate hearing this week. The hearing will also be attended by companies like Qualcomm, a member of the Innovation Alliance, which is urging that the ban against Apple products be enforced. Vetoing the ban would upend decades of settled expectations, it says, and hurt capacity to enforce patents.

The BSA's stance has some support from antitrust officials at the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission, who worry that companies are using patents as competitive weapons, instead of defending against legitimate intellectual theft. Should the Obama administration's Trade Representative -- Michael Froman -- not issue a veto, the ban against the older Apple devices will take effect August 4th. No veto of an ITC ruling has been issued since 1987, and the ban is unlikely to hurt either Apple or AT&T that much, since Apple is expected to discontinue the affected products when it rolls out new ones in September.

Remoter Pro 1.4.0 ? VNC ScreenSharing, RDP, SSH for iPhone and iPad

Cary, North Carolina ? Remoter Labs today is thrilled to announce the release of Remoter Pro 1.4.0 for iPhone and iPad, an update to their productivity app that enables users to remotely control Macs via Screen Sharing, and Windows or Linux computers using the VNC or RDP standards right from their iOS devices, with full external keyboard support or using a software keyboard. The app uses Bonjour and NetBIOS to make setup a cinch, and it features a novel and highly praised ?virtual trackpad? that allows to control the mouse cursor intuitively. RemoterFusion, which provides sound redirection and easy setup, RDP, Telnet and SSH support are also included.

The app offers one of the best integrated implementations of the VNC, RDP and SSH protocols on the Mac platform. Operation is intuitive, with a well thought out interface.

On Macs, setup is ultra-simple using the optional RemoterFusion app. Port-forwarding and/or dynamic DNS is no longer needed in order to establish connections from outside the computer?s network. This also provides sound redirection, which allows listening to music tracks, or any sound playing remotely on the computer from the iOS device. RemoterFusion is included 100% free with Remoter Pro.

Local session set-up is simple, all the computers from the WiFi network are found using both the Bonjour and NetBIOS standards. The user then taps on the desired connection, and all queried information such as computer name, IP address, service port, and more auto-populates the set-up screen. The user then only needs to enter the VNC password to complete setup. A button labeled ?Advanced? reveals many useful advanced options, like color depth, server scaling setting, compression level and more.

The RDP support allows connecting to Windows computers that include an RDP server (Remote Desktop Protocol). This allows connecting to these machines without having to install a server, as is the case with VNC. Even the new Windows 8 Consumer Preview is supported!

Via the SSH function, the app allows users to establish secure and tunneled VNC, or RDP connections to their computer desktop. This also gives users the ability of establishing terminal connections to any SSH server. Featuring full terminal control, including special keys such as Control, Alt, F1-F14. Terminal support implements font foreground and background color, a terminal buffer, and clicking. SSH authentication includes both passwords and private/public key support. A fully featured SSH Key manager allows users to create SSH keys using RSA or DSA. Passphrases can also be set, and independent SSH keys can be used for each SSH session.

Remoter Pro gives users the ability of create up to five TCP tunnels (via SSH). The tunnels can then be accessed while the app is in the background by any other app on the iOS device. Providing a VPN connection to the SSH server. Background connections can stay active for a full ten minutes.

The Telnet function enables users to connect to server computers using the Telnet protocol. Like with SSH, the app provides full color support, a terminal buffer, and special keys.

Both SSH and Telnet allow for selection of text which is then synchronized with the device?s pasteboard, and can then be pasted within the application, or into any other app.

The app features a connection selection interface that is controlled by swiping on the iOS device to graphically select the desired connection. On the iPad, a wholly new interface, which features a grid of servers that can be filtered is presented. A ?Session Selection? screen is also available. This option presents a list view of all available connections. Sessions can be sorted by name, type or usage.

Wake-on-LAN support is also built-in, when the server session is setup using Bonjour or NetBIOS, the MAC address is automatically populated. Otherwise the field is provided to allow the user to populate it manually. Wake-on-LAN can then be sent either from the main screen of the app, or via the session selection screen.

Macros can also be created and run. Macro support is included for VNC, RDP, SSH and Telnet sessions, and a Macros manager allows for renaming and deleting of existing macros.

The app is extremely configurable, in the ?Remoter Config? screen users can select from a variety of options to best suit their needs. Options such as trackpad type and acceleration, visual clicks, international keyboard support for OS X are included.

While connected to a server, the app supports both landscape and portrait mode, full-screen mode, different pre-set zoom levels, along with a smooth pinch-to-zoom interface. Pasteboard synchronization is also supported for all connection modes. Full external keyboard support, either USB or Bluetooth is also provided.

Pope draws 3M for vigil after chastising 'exodus'

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) ? Pope Francis drew a reported 3 million flag-waving, rosary-toting faithful to Rio's Copacabana beach on Saturday for the final evening of World Youth Day, hours after he chastised the Brazilian church for failing to stem the "exodus" of Catholics to evangelical congregations.

Francis headed into the final hours of his first international trip riding a remarkable wave of popularity: By the time his open-sided car reached the stage for the vigil service Saturday night, the back seat was piled high with soccer jerseys, flags and flowers tossed to him by adoring pilgrims lining the beachfront route.

"I'm trembling, look how good you can see him!" gushed Fiorella Dias, a 16-year-old Brazilian who jumped for joy as she reviewed the video she shot as the pope passed by. "I have got to call my mother!"

On the beach, pilgrims staked out their spots on the sand, lounged and snacked, preparing for an all-night slumber party ahead of the final Mass on Sunday. Many of those actually paying attention to the vigil had tears in their eyes, moved by Francis' call for them to build up their church like his namesake, St. Francis of Assisi, was called to do.

"Jesus offers us something bigger than the World Cup!" Francis said, drawing cheers from the crowd in this soccer-mad nation.

The vigil capped a busy day for the pope in which he drove home a message he has emphasized throughout the week in speeches, homilies and off-the-cuff remarks: the need for Catholics, lay and religious, to shake up the status quo, get out of their stuffy sacristies and reach the faithful on the margins of society or risk losing them to rival churches.

In the longest and most important speech of his four-month pontificate, Francis took a direct swipe at the "intellectual" message of the church that so characterized the pontificate of his predecessor, Benedict XVI. Speaking to Brazil's bishops, he said ordinary Catholics simply don't understand such lofty ideas and need to hear the simpler message of love, forgiveness and mercy that is at the core of the Catholic faith.

"At times we lose people because they don't understand what we are saying, because we have forgotten the language of simplicity and import an intellectualism foreign to our people," he said. "Without the grammar of simplicity, the church loses the very conditions which make it possible to fish for God in the deep waters of his mystery."

In a speech outlining the kind of church he wants, Francis asked bishops to reflect on why hundreds of thousands of Catholics have left the church for Protestant and Pentecostal congregations that have grown exponentially in recent decades in Brazil, particularly in its slums or favelas, where their charismatic message and nuts-and-bolts advice is welcome by the poor.

According to census data, the number of Catholics in Brazil dipped from 125 million in 2000 to 123 million in 2010, with the church's share of the total population dropping from 74 percent to 65 percent. During the same time period, the number of evangelical Protestants and Pentecostals skyrocketed from 26 million to 42 million, increasing from 15 percent to 22 percent of the population in 2010.

Francis offered a breathtakingly blunt list of explanations for the "exodus."

"Perhaps the church appeared too weak, perhaps too distant from their needs, perhaps too poor to respond to their concerns, perhaps too cold, perhaps too caught up with itself, perhaps a prisoner of its own rigid formulas," he said. "Perhaps the world seems to have made the church a relic of the past, unfit for new questions. Perhaps the church could speak to people in their infancy but not to those come of age."

Francis asked if the church today can still "warm the hearts" of its faithful with priests who take time to listen to their problems and remain close to them.

"We need a church capable of rediscovering the maternal womb of mercy," he said. "Without mercy, we have little chance nowadays of becoming part of a world of 'wounded' persons in need of understanding, forgiveness and love."

Despite Francis' critical assessment of the sorry state of the church in Brazil, the pope's reception in Rio has shown that he can draw quite a crowd. Copacabana beach's 4 kilometers (2.5 miles) of white sand was overflowing for the final vigil Saturday night, thanks also to Mother Nature which finally cooperated with chilly but dry temperatures after days of rain.

Local media, citing information from the mayor's office, said 3 million people were on hand for the vigil; calls to the mayor's office weren't immediately returned. That's far higher than the 1 million at the last World Youth Day vigil in Madrid in 2011, and far more than the 650,000 at Toronto's 2002 vigil.

Rio's mayor had estimated earlier in the day that as many as 3 million people might turn out for Sunday's culminating Mass.

"At church, it can be a bit tedious, but here it's amazing," marveled Anna Samson, a 21-year-old rising college senior from Long Beach, California.

"Seeing the pope, seeing the Stations of the Cross acted out live, seeing all these young people from all over," she said as she and two friends plied the beach in search of a place to spread their sleeping bags. "It's overwhelming, just amazing."

Even the human statues, a fixture on Copacabana beach, were pious Saturday night, drawing crowds of picture-snapping pilgrims with their oversized angel's wings.

The Argentine pope began his day with a Mass in Rio's beehive-like modern cathedral where he exhorted 1,000 bishops from around the world to go out and find the faithful, a more diplomatic expression of the direct, off-the-cuff instructions he delivered to young Argentine pilgrims on Thursday. In those remarks, he urged the youngsters to make a "mess" in their dioceses and shake things up, even at the expense of confrontation with their bishops and priests.

"We cannot keep ourselves shut up in parishes, in our communities when so many people are waiting for the Gospel!" Francis said in his homily Saturday. "It's not enough simply to open the door in welcome, but we must go out through that door to seek and meet the people."

Francis' target audience is the poor and the marginalized ? the people that history's first pope from Latin America has highlighted on this first trip of his pontificate. He has visited one of Rio's most violent slum areas, met with juvenile offenders and drug addicts and welcomed in a place of honor 35 garbage collectors from his native Argentina.

He carried that message to a meeting with Brazil's political, economic and intellectual elite, urging them to look out for the poorest and use their leadership positions to work for the common good. He also called for greater dialogue between generations, religions and peoples during the speech at Rio's grand municipal theater.

On a few occasions, he looked up at the gilded theater boxes almost in awe from the stage and seemed positively charmed when a few dozen young students of the theater's ballet school sat down around him. At the end of the event, the little ballerinas swarmed Francis, and he gave each one a kiss on the forehead.

Also receiving papal embraces were a handful of Brazilian Indians, dressed in their traditional, bare-bellied garb who lined up to kiss his ring. One man gave Francis a feathered headdress, which he gamely wore for a few moments.

market1The Central Regional House of Chiefs on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), USA, to promote the region economically.

The MOU seeks to enhance the socio-economic development of the region through agriculture, public-private partnerships, human resource development through training and technical assistance of mutual interest to both institutions.

Other areas that would be given priority attention are the promotion of development initiatives to address poverty reduction and ensure income generation, youth and women empowerment as well as access to the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the growth of the region.

Daasebre Kweebu Ewusie VII, President of the Central Regional House Chiefs, signed on behalf of the House and Professor Emmanuel Acquah, Director of International Programmes of the UMES, signed for? the university at a brief ceremony witnessed by the Central Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Sarpong.

Prof. Acquah, who is also Professor of Agricultural Economics at the UMES, said a research by UMES and University of Cape Coast revealed that the poverty level in the region could be reduced using agriculture.

It was towards that direction that the university had sought the assistance of the paramount chiefs to provide land for vegetable farming to engage the teeming unemployed youth to be economically independent, he said.

This, Prof. Acquah said, would help reduce poverty in the region whilst the UMES would also benefit by sending some of its experts to interchange ideas on Ghana?s vegetable farming and study how it was done.

He said citrus and animal husbandry would be explored later.

Daasebre Kweebu Ewusie said all the paramouncies of the House had agreed to allocate land for the farming project to engage the youth in agriculture to make poverty a thing of the past.

He urged the media to give it the necessary publicity to help attract and sustain the interest of the youth in the project.

The Regional Minister said the MOU was important considering the poverty level in the region adding that the Regional Coordinating Council would do its best to ensure its success.

Survival Stories: Life After Breast Cancer

One in eight American women will get breast cancer. According to the World Health Organization, it's the most common cancer found in women worldwide ? and, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, it's the second leading cause of death among women. So, when we use the word "survivor," we don't use it lightly.

We spoke with three breast cancer survivors about their experiences: Tig Notaro, whose surprising cancer diagnosis came amidst a slew of devastating life events; Sonia Kashuk, who was already taking preventative measures when her doctor found her lump; and Nicole Dove, who, despite her long family history of breast cancer, wasn't equipped with the knowledge to take immediate action.

The interviews that follow tell unique stories of struggle, pain, loss, and ultimately, triumph. Each woman's story is completely different in narrative, and yet the message repeats ? knowledge has the power to save lives. The more that women know about breast cancer, from prevention to treatment, the safer future generations will be from this disease. And, that's the main reason these women were so willing to share their stories with us. Not for themselves, but for the other women who might be putting themselves at risk simply because of a lack of awareness.

Read on to learn their stories.

Tig Notaro is a comedian. She was 41 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, which followed a four-month period during which her mother passed away, she battled pneumonia as well as a bacterial infection in her digestive tract, and she went through a breakup. The standup routine she did several days after receiving her breast cancer diagnosis, which famously begins with Notaro saying, "Good evening! Hello. I have cancer! How are you?" went viral.

You spoke very publicly about your diagnosis soon after receiving it. How you were able to access the humor of the situation so quickly?
"I think it was a part of my coping process. Before I was diagnosed with cancer, I had a series of horrible things happen, and during that time I was so cold ? just physically and emotionally beaten down. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with cancer that I found a sense of humor about everything. The cancer was just the straw that broke the camel's back."

When you found the lump, did you know what it was?
"No, I didn't. I didn't have breast cancer on either side of the family. I didn't smoke, I was a healthy eater, I was young. I had several friends who had had lumps that were nothing. I just really didn't think I had anything to be concerned about. It was a shock to find out it was cancer."

Who was your support system at that time?
"My friends, my stepfather, my brother, my aunt. Family and friends. Certainly my story went viral, so I had tremendous support from strangers and friends as well. The support from strangers made me so excited about humanity. People seemed to really want to latch onto something good or positive. It was nice to see and be a part of."

Did you ever feel defeated?
"I wanted to survive the whole time ??though it sometimes felt like once I would get up again, I was going to be knocked down. But, I always wanted to survive. There was never a part of me that wanted to really give up. I certainly felt defeated at times, though."

How did your mother?s passing affect your thoughts about your own mortality?
"Oddly, the brushes with death that I was coming upon, repeatedly, made me feel close to my mother ? I was comforted by the thought that if I were to go, she had just passed away, too. I kept thinking that she wouldn't have ever believed that not only did she die, but that right after, I would be going as well. But, I never wanted to die."

What would you say to someone else who was just diagnosed with breast cancer?
"Whether it's breast cancer or anything else, I think just the smallest thing is the biggest thing, which is to take a step. Whether it's to get out of bed, or go to the doctor, or to inform yourself, just take one step and another step. And, just breathe in and out. I know it sounds so basic, but that's all I could do, and even then, I didn't want to take small steps very often. I just didn't want to do anything. But, if you just take one step, it's gigantic."

What do you want women in general to know about breast cancer?
"I was so, so naive. I was the least likely candidate, but I still could have had cancer and did have cancer. So, I want women to know that they should research and not fall prey to thinking that there's no chance you could have it. Because that's just denial and it's so much better to live in reality."

How are you doing now?
"I'm personally doing very well. I feel like a very lucky person. The most important thing is to keep taking small steps, one after the other. Those tiny but small gigantic steps forward. It's so important. It's so crucial."

Nicole Dove is the Social Network/Database Coordinator of The Sisters Network Inc., a national organization for African-American breast cancer survivors whose goal is to increase local and national attention to the impact that breast cancer has in the African-American community. Dove was 33 years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Does breast cancer run in your family?
"Yes, it does, but I never, ever thought I would have it. My dad?s mother was 33 or 34 when she was diagnosed, but nobody really knew about it because she didn?t talk about it. My first cousin was diagnosed before 40, but she didn?t have mastectomies. Five or six years later, it spread to her lungs and her brain, and then she passed away. That?s when I found my own lump, but I didn?t tell anyone. I waited three or four months before I went to a doctor."

Why didn?t you tell anyone?
"I thought it was going to go away. I didn?t know it meant something was wrong. I felt for it every day, many times a day, thinking it would go away and it just didn?t. When I finally saw a doctor, they wouldn?t let me leave until they got me into a diagnostic center to get an ultrasound. The next day, I got the call at work that I needed to see a surgeon ? but at that time I still didn?t think it was cancer. I just thought they were going to go in and remove the lump."

What happened?
"They removed the lump on Tuesday, and on Friday the surgeon called me and told me that it was cancer. I screamed, and cried, and hollered, and he stayed on the phone until I was done, and then he said, 'I?ll see you Monday.' And, on Monday, they said I had to have my breast removed. I told them I?d need time to process it, but my mom was there and she said, 'No, you can?t wait. You have to get it done.' I had the entire right breast removed, and then I found out that it had spread to the lymph nodes and underneath the arms.

"After the surgery, I had chemo therapy and it made me so ill that I didn?t even want to live anymore. It was just too hard. Then I tested positive for the BRCA gene, and they told me I had to get my other breast removed and that I had to have a complete hysterectomy. I felt like I was losing everything that made me a woman, and I didn?t have a choice. I didn?t have a chance to process anything ? everything just moved so fast. During my second round of chemo, my husband decided he couldn?t deal with it, so he left. My mom was my caretaker; she was always so positive while I was so angry. But, she would comfort me every day, and say, 'You?re gonna make it, you?re gonna make it.' I don?t know why, but I had a turning point that I wanted to live. Once I started talking to myself and saying, 'I can do this,' I actually started getting better. I started getting up."

How did you get involved with the Sisters Network?
"I needed a support system. I was going to support groups, but I was the only African American. I wanted to be around women who looked like me, so I found the Sisters Network and started going to meetings. Then I started volunteering with them and speaking to women, and I started doing the social media. Sisters Network made me feel better because there were other women who looked like me in the room together. I felt like they understood what I was talking about, especially since I was so young, and there were other young women with the same type of cancer that I had. I had been so quiet about it, and they were quiet about it, too ? I realized I wasn?t alone in that experience. I hadn?t told anyone because I didn?t understand what I was going through, and if I didn?t understand, how could I tell anyone?"

What advice would you give to someone who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer?
"From the very first day that you?re diagnosed, you should consider yourself a survivor."

Sonia Kashuk is a top award-winning makeup artist and makeup designer. She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 47. Both her mother and her grandmother had breast cancer; her grandmother passed away at 52, and her mother is a survivor. Because of her family history, Kashuk was in a surveillance program at Memorial Sloan-Kettering, where she was closely monitored even before her diagnosis.

Based on your mother and grandmother?s history with breast cancer, you?ve said before that you felt it was not a matter of if, but when you would be diagnosed. How did that impact how you felt when you actually were diagnosed?
"I think no matter what, you can never prepare yourself for a cancer diagnosis. No matter how strong you are, no matter what you anticipate something to be, I think once you hear that word it throws you into a tailspin. Every time I went to the doctor for an MRI or a mammogram, it always felt a little bit like Russian roulette. But when I received the call, and heard the word cancer, it was incredibly shocking and a very hard thing to digest."

Was it at all empowering to know that it was a risk?
"You know what? I guess it was. I had actually scheduled an appointment with a plastic surgeon to go talk about doing something prophylactically. I had come to peace with myself that I was going to see the plastic surgeon and explore what my breasts would look like after a mastectomy, and take a stance and do something, and then it all happened.

"I can still clearly see myself waiting in the waiting room, waiting to get the results back from my mammogram. I can still hear my doctor saying, 'Oh, there?s a little something there.' It was an emotional rollercoaster. I knew at that point that I couldn?t emotionally keep riding that rollercoaster. My boobs didn?t define me?? I had to think of the bigger thing. I don?t think about it much anymore today. I haven?t even reconstructed one of my nipples."

What does it take, emotionally, to survive breast cancer?
"I think you have to find something else to focus on. My focus wasn?t really on me, it was about my kids. At the time they were 8 and 11, so it was really about how to get them through this, not me. It was about what I had to do to get them through it."

How did you help them get through it?
"I never told them I had cancer. Even when they came to see me in the hospital, I met them all in the waiting room. They never saw me laying in the bed with IVs. I never used the word cancer with them ? though my daughter recently said to me, ?Mom, of course I knew, you didn?t have to say it.? I believe that even today she is scared. They said she?ll have to start screening in her twenties because of our family history. She?s 15 now. I tell her that I pray that, God willing, there will be a cure by then. That?s why everyone is working so diligently and so hard on this disease. It?s not just that I?m a breast cancer survivor that I feel the need to fight and get involved; it?s for my daughter."

What advice would you give to someone who was recently diagnosed?
"I would say stay strong and find the positives within it all. Know that it?s a process and that every day it will get better, and that time does help to heal. I have to say I?m definitely pro double mastectomy. Someone said to me, 'Isn?t that aggressive if they tell you you can do a lumpectomy?' My response was, 'Can you really be too aggressive with cancer?'"

What?s the most important thing for women with breast cancer to know?
"There?s an incredible amount of information and support out there. Don?t ever feel alone."

Recent Market Report: Global Industry Satellite TV Services Market Forecast, 2013 - 2019

Direct-To-Home (DTH) satellite television services have remarkably changed the mass electronic communication industry. DTH service provides reliable signals, high-definition video clarity, digital sound quality and essential signal security. It provides consumers with the facility to select the channels based on their preference and thus helping in cutting down on expenses. The broadcasters can also find out the exact number of viewers for a specific channel (TRP) to estimate its popularity. C-band and Ku-band are the two modes of DTH signal transmission. Increasing importance of the mass media industry across the world has contributed to the rise of the global DTH market during the past decade. Moreover, many governments have imposed regulations and legislations regarding installation of DTH and phasing out of analog signals, thus driving the growth of the DTH satellite television services market. Developing countries such as Brazil, India, Russia and China (BRIC countries) are expected to witness rapid growth in the DTH satellite television services market over the forecast period. Rapid urbanization, improved lifestyles and enhanced living standards are all expected to contribute towards the growth of DTH satellite television services market. Some of the key players in DTH satellite services industry include APT Satellite Holdings Limited, DIRECTV Group Inc., FOXTEL, Astro All Asia Networks Plc, JSAT Corporation, AUSTAR United Communications Limited, MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd, BCE Inc., Nahuelsat S.A, Sky Italia, Pace Micro Technology Plc, Norsat International Inc., Optus Communications Pty. Porn Star Regrets Getting 'Horny' At Baseball Game

Andy San Dimas has regrets about getting ?horny? in Pittsburgh and wants to make amends to the Pittsburgh Police Dept.

San Dimas, 26, recently aroused the attention of the world when she was ejected from a Pittsburgh Pirates baseball game on July 13 after shaking her moneymaker while wearing a unicorn mask.

"I feel stupid," she told The Huffington Post. "I'm embarrassed. I usually only act ridiculous when I get paid."

The actress fears her actions may have caused problems for an officer stationed at the stadium who posed for a photo wearing the unicorn mask, News.com.au reported.

Still, she is hoping to make things right for the officer by auctioning off the unicorn mask, along with the shirt she was wearing during the incident.

?Unicorngate,? as no one has called it, began when San Dimas was in town with her friend Steviee Hughes, who brought the rubber unicorn mask to the game for fun.

Some people who recognized San Dimas suggested she put it on in hopes of getting featured on the Jumbotron.

It worked, until a security guard asked her repeatedly to sit back down.

"I didn't see the guy telling me to sit down," she said. "It was loud and it's hard to see out of the mask."

Deadspin claimed that San Dimas yelled, "Oh, I'm sorry. I was trying to have a good time at the f***ing Pirates game," at a security guard, but she tells a different story.

?When I was asked, I did so willingly, mainly because it was time to get to the club,? she said.

San Dimas also has issues with media reports describing her Deadspin unicorn dance moves as ?sexy.?

"TMZ posted the video and absolutely no one has really looked at it,? she said. ?If that was a 'sexy' dance, I wouldn't be in the money [as a feature dancer]," she laughed.

"The police officers were laughing when they heard why we were ejected and they were making jokes about it," San Dimas told PennLive, adding that no one in the office recognized her as a porn performer.

The picture has since aroused controversy after the media made the connection with San Dimas' porn career, and the officer who wore the mask is now supposedly the subject of an investigation.

Michael Huss, the public safety director for the Pittsburgh Police Dept., said the sergeant may be disciplined because of the horny photo.

"This is someone who is a supervisor, that we look up to to lead other officers. It's not the example we're looking for," Huss said, according to Star-Advertiser.com.

San Dimas is skeptical that an investigation is taking place, but doesn?t want the officer to get in trouble.

"They haven't contacted me even though they have my information," she told HuffPost.

Still, she hopes auctioning off the mask and the shirt she was wearing, and donating the proceeds to the Pittsburgh Police will help make things OK for the officer, who she said did nothing wrong or inappropriate.

San Dimas is unsure when the unicorn mask auction will happen, but hopes to do it soon to capitalize on the interest in the story. She admits this incident may help her career.

"I've always had an awful low ranking on Free Ones [a ranking site for porn stars] considering I'm well known in the porn industry and have won some awards," she told The Huffington Post. "I was around 700, but now I'm No. 3."

San Dimas is more than just a unicorn mask. She and porn actor James Deen recently became the first mainstream sex stars to to make a dirty movie using Google Glass.

?I?m all over the place now,? she laughed.

N Korea, China ties undergoing difficult phase ahead of armistice anniversary

BEIJING: Sixty years after the armistice, ties between China and the DPRK, once described as being "as close as lip and teeth", are undergoing a difficult phase.

Analysts said that, the relationship is at its lowest point since North Korea's third nuclear test at the beginning of 2013.

In the conflict between 1950 and 1953, China sent hundreds of thousands of its soldiers to the Korean peninsula to reinforce North Korean troops that had been pushed back almost to the Chinese border.

Beijing also contributed to the resulting armistice, forging an alliance frequently described as "sealed in blood".

Former Chinese leader Mao Zedong's eldest son Mao Anying died fighting on the Korean peninsula -- embodying the ties between China and the DPRK.

The strength of that relationship however, has been eroding over the last 60 years -- something especially evident since the beginning of this year, when China took a stronger stance against North Korea after its third nuclear test by backing tougher UN sanctions and cutting off dealings with North Korean banks.

Professor Shi Yinhong from the School of International Studies at Renmin University of China, said: "I think since the armistice, China's relations with the DPRK is generally quite dynamic -- dynamic in a negative sense.

"Because of North Korea's highly threatening attitude and stubbornness with regards to peace in the peninsula and also because of North Korea's Kim Jong Un, most of the time taking a very unfriendly attitude to China."

China has been feeling quite spurned by the young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un -- he has ignored China's calls for a stable and peaceful neighbourhood, carrying out two rocket launches and a nuclear test over the past one and a half years. This is seen as not giving face to China and taking Beijing's friendship for granted.

In an attempt to mend fences with Beijing, Pyongyang has in recent months sent high-level envoys to China for talks. Chinese vice president Li Yuanchao is also in Pyongyang at the invitation of the DPRK to attend the 60th anniversary of the armistice -- the highest-ranking Chinese leader to visit North Korea since Kim Jong Un became leader.

This could be an important chance for bilateral talks and might signal a re-affirmation of ties.

However, given Pyongyang's insistence on nuclear and missile development, analysts said China would be more skeptical.

Prof Shi said: "I don't think that China will return to its past approach... That it has 100 per cent forbearance. I think that in this sense, China's policies, attitudes and approach to North Korea has really substantially changed and it's very difficult to return to the past, (after) very unsuccessful policies and the approach taken by the previous Chinese administration."

As its global power rises, China is also facing international pressure to play its role in reining in Pyongyang.

Current Chinese president Xi Jinping is known to be more pragmatic and has been seen to be less tolerant towards North Korea's provocations. Mr Xi also re-emphasised China's commitment to denuclearisation in his recent meeting with with his US counterpart Barack Obama.

But what has not changed is China's interest to maintain Pyongyang as a crucial buffer against US influence in the region, as well as to prevent the swarming of North Korean refugees across its long, shared border.

For the same reasons it participated in the Korean war some 60 years ago, China is unlikely to cut Pyongyang adrift, even as it pushes North Korea harder to reform.

BD-PRo Marketing Solutions Engages With Fans about Networking ...

?

BD-PRo Caption Contest Photo

PRLog (Press Release) - Jul. 25, 2013 - PITTSBURGH -- Having a strong list of meaningful contacts is critical when running a business; building your professional profile; and/or having reliable job references. Business networking is only productive if you are able to build your database of connections with mutually beneficial relationships, not just increasing social media contacts and handing out business cards. You can lose an opportunity to build a strong business relationship by inadvertently committing various networking faux pas. ?BD-PRo Marketing developed a Facebook contest to engage with their followers about common networking problems, and provide a fun and interactive way for everyone to learn about networking pet peeves, so they do not make the same mistakes. ?

The caption contest launched on June 11th 2013 and showed a photograph of an obviously annoyed networker. Participants were then given the chance to draw upon their own experiences to write a caption sharing an irritating networking situation that could have caused this reaction. ??You can read tons of articles and books about networking, but I think most people learn best from their experiences,? Geisler states. ??The leading caption states ?Would it be rude to throw a breath mint in while he keeps talking?? which clearly demonstrates a problem that exists in networking situations. We hear about things like be a good listener and don?t interrupt, but bad breath? This isn?t something that is commonly covered in articles about successful networking. This contest combines humor with sharing and it is exciting to interact with our community in a fun way.?

BD-PRo Marketing successfully uses social media to directly connect with their followers. ?After launching the contest, we have increased the number of our Facebook fans by 61% which demonstrates the power of engagement through social media,? states Sheryl Johnson, Founder of BD-PRo Marketing. ?Many business professionals focus more on collecting contacts in their networking efforts; however, I believe that networking is so much more. True strategic networking is a business process and involves building meaningful relationships through active interaction. This will uncover more profitable business leads in the long run which results in increased sales.?

Caption submissions closed on July 18th; however, the voting will continue until July 31st. ?So put aside your Networking for Dummies book, close your Google search tabs, and head over to BD-PRo?s Facebook page to read, learn and vote on your favorite entries by clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/13DpdQZ .

The caption with the most votes will win a $50 Visa gift card and a one-year subscription to the Network PRo Toolkit.

Because networking is critical to business growth, Johnson authored and developed the Network PRo Toolkit to help business and sales professionals become more efficient and effective at networking. This revolutionary toolkit takes the concept of networking and turns it into a business process that helps eliminate networking mistakes so you are focusing your time and money on the networking techniques that are most relevant for your unique business needs. thebahamasweekly.com - Is this the right time to buy real estate?

In William Shakespeare?s play Hamlet written in 1600 Hamlet asks the question TO BE OR NOT TO BE? as he questions the meaning of life. If Hamlet lived in Freeport, Grand Bahama 400 years after he asked that question in his famous soliloquy he might now ask the question TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY?

Many people have asked themselves this question especially as the world economy slowly recovers.? While each option of renting or owning has its benefits, the decision to purchase a duplex, condominium or house as opposed to renting, is complex and based on a number of factors. Nearly everyone believes buying a home today is a good financial decision. The question that remains is whether or not NOW is the right time to purchase a home for YOU!

For most people, deciding to purchase a home is the largest financial decision of their lifetime. Before making the jump into home ownership, potential home buyers should consider the ?soft? lifestyle issues as well as the ?hard?? financial ones. In Rotary we have the 4 way test. Is it the truth? Is it fair for all concerned? Will it build good will and better friendships? Will it be beneficial for all concerned? and in Real estate we have four financial and lifestyle questions to consider when determining if buying a home is the right decision for you:

  • Do you have a steady income? At or near the top of every potential homebuyer?s mind is whether or not they can afford to buy a home right now. Buying a home remains a sound financial decision for those with documented income and a good credit history, and a steady income can provide a strong backbone for the initial down payment and future mortgage payments. Don?t hesitate to speak with your real estate broker to determine all the ?other? costs of home ownership such as insurance, pool maintenance, power, cable, water, gardener, general upkeep etc etc. Your real estate broker can help you answer and uncover questions about the cost of home ownership. Make sure you are know what your monthly operating costs will be including your other living costs so you can budget properly.? Don?t fool yourself.
  • Do you plan to stay in a home for an extended period of time? With proper planning, a home purchase has historically proven to be one of the strongest investments one can make. Along those lines, it?s imperative to understand that investing in a home is much different than investing in a stock portfolio. Homes typically appreciate in value over time while the owner builds his or her equity through monthly mortgage payments. If you anticipate staying in a home for only one or two years, it doesn?t necessarily mean buying is not for you, but you are less likely to see a significant financial return on your investment. Based on the current market and our closing costs you should be prepared for a long term investment otherwise it does not make sense. Remember that you will be responsible for ? the government stamp tax ( 2% to 5% based on the price) and your legal fees of approximately 2.5%. So when you buy it could cost you 7.5% in closing costs and when you sell it can cost you up to 13% so you have to factor that in your calculations.
  • Do you plan to sell a house in order to buy a house? Your local real estate agents can help you understand current local market conditions and will help you make smart decisions when listing a home on the market. If you do not currently own a home that needs to be sold prior to purchasing a new one, now is a particularly smart time to buy. Even though local banks are more thorough in their approval process, mortgage financing is still widely available for those with a steady income and solid credit. High inventories and low interest rates give first-time homebuyers a tremendous amount of opportunity and flexibility in our market. Remember 1st time Bahamian buyers can get an exemption on the government stamp tax.? You still have to pay it but you will get it back from the government.

How do your other options compare? For renters, calculating month-to-month housing expenses is as easy as inquiring about the monthly rent and average utilities. The calculation gets a bit more complicated when considering the monthly cost of owning a home. A real estate professional can help you understand a range of financial considerations from annual service charges, to hurricane insurance, to property taxes if you buy out of the ?bonded area?. And in 2015 we might be faced with property taxes like Nassau. And soon we have to see how VAT (Value Added Tax) factors into the Real Estate equation

There is no one right decision when it comes to renting versus buying a home. Each individual should take the time to look at their personal and financial situation to decide what will work best for their needs and lifestyle.? To Buy or Not to Buy that is the question.?
